Vita Health Program

The VITA Health Program is aimed at promoting the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis medications, known as PrEP, as a prevention strategy to avoid HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection, in conjunction with other safety practices. PrEP is a medication used by people at high risk of contracting HIV. PrEP helps prevent HIV transmission through sexual relations or the use of injectable drugs. When taken as directed and continuously, PrEP is highly effective in preventing HIV infection (>90%).

HIV is a virus that attacks the body's immune system, and if not treated, can cause AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome), which severely compromises the individual's health. At Healthpromed (HPM), we are committed to the prevention, detection, and treatment of HIV. The VITA Program offers resources for prevention, detection, and strategies to take control of your health if your lifestyle puts you at risk of infection. Our main goal is to improve the quality of life for people living with an HIV-positive diagnosis by offering specialized health services focused on the patient's well-being. People with an HIV-positive diagnosis or those interested in prevention services are eligible for the program.

The facilities and services of the VITA Health Program are integrated into the general primary care unit of HPM, so patients with HIV and their families are not identified. This integration results in a positive experience where patients can seek medical attention without fear of stigma, protecting their health information and fostering individualized care based on each patient's particular needs. VITA is the Latin word for life. It is a discreet and attractive name that carries a message of hope for people living with HIV and facilitates patient-centered communication.
